Astro Pi: Mission Update 2

Time for an Astro Pi update! The ‘big idea’ phase of the competition, where students were only required to submit an idea, closed at the beginning of April. The fully anonymised judging process took place over two long days at York’s National STEM Centre on the 17th of April

Star Wars Episode 3.14: A New Hope

Martin O’Hanlon is a co-author of Adventures in Minecraft which we featured back in November. The book’s full of incredible projects you can do with Minecraft, involving learning programming skills through building structures and interactive applications within the Minecraft world using the Python API provided in Minecraft: Pi Edition . We don’t know how he comes up with some of the ideas, and we’re amazed by what he shows can be achieved ( solar system in Minecraft , anyone?) but this one really blew us away

Exploring computing education in rural schools in India

Earlier this year, the Raspberry Pi Foundation supported a University of Cambridge team of two researchers, Dr Maximilian Bock and Aftab Jalia, in a pilot project exploring the possibilities of providing computing access and education in rural schools in India.

Preston Raspberry Jam, 01.07.13

Silicon Bus Stop: A change of venue On Monday 1st July we held our Preston Raspberry Jam at the CPC offices in Fulwood, Preston. We normally hold our Jam events at the University, but I wanted to explore the use of different venue. I had been to visit the offices a few times before and wondered if it would make a suitable location for holding events.

Reddit: what do people use their Pis for?

A thread about Raspberry Pi ended up on the front page of Reddit today , and it’s a doozy. There are thousands of people taking part, and some Pi projects mentioned that we’d never even imagined people taking on. Some of them made our little hearts swell with pride.

Raspberry Pi Competition Results

A few months ago PA Consulting Group ran a competition that challenged young people to make the world a better place using a Raspberry Pi. Last Wednesday I went along to help judge the 14 teams who made it to the final. Walking into the presentation room there was a real creative buzz as the contestants set up their projects and carried out last minute tweaks.
