Infrared camera – you asked us, so we’re making them!

You may have heard rumours about something we’re calling Pi NoIR ( Pi , no i nfra r ed) – it’s been a very badly kept secret. Some months ago we featured some work that was being done at Reading Hackspace , where members were removing the infrared filter to use the camera to sense infrared signals, and for low-light work, especially with wildlife.

Back when we moved into our offices, I tweeted about the fact that we were all feeling itchy, snappish and antsy (like some dwarves who didn’t make the Snow White cut), because we weren’t able to make proper coffee in the office. Things were so bad, we had resorted to instant.

Raspberry Pi Magic Mirror

Here’s a somewhat creepy mirror with a disembodied (French) voice, which recognises the person looking into it and responds accordingly. This lovely hack from Pierre Raufast is the sort of OpenCV application that we hope to see much more of when the camera board goes up for sale (and the Pi camera would be a great solution here, with a much higher framerate).
