Test Tim’s NuScratch alpha

Over the last year, we’ve seen big improvements in Scratch performance on the Pi. To date these have resulted from tweaks to the Scratch codebase and the addition of ARMv6-optimized blitting routines to the Squeak Smalltalk VM on which it runs

PyPy on Pi

While we love all programming languages equally here at the Foundation, we do love Python an awful lot. Most users run their code under the “default” CPython interpreter, but over the last few years the PyPy project has made great strides in producing an highly compatible alternative interpreter with an integrated tracing JIT compiler. New York Times article and video about Eben’s visit

Eben and I flew to the US yesterday, and bought a copy of the New York Times at the airport the moment we landed to read in the cab on the way to our hotel, because we’d been told just before we took off that there was a long  article about Raspberry Pi in the business section. A bit of a Total Perspective Vortex moment. We’ve been so busy over the last few months that I’d actually forgotten that we’d spent half a day with a video photographer from the NYT in September, when we were at Maker Faire NY.
