We first met Ryan Walmsley when he was fifteen, back in May 2012. He’d been emailing and tweeting with us for months at that point (mostly variations on WHEN CAN I BUY ONE?), and he then proceeded to knock our socks off very shortly after we started shipping by producing, out of the blue, the Rastrack map , which Pi users can register their Pis on, showing the geographical spread of the project

On Saturday, the half of Cambridgeshire that wasn’t busy footling about in the sun descended on Cambridge Consultants’ offices, kindly lent to the Raspberry Jam folks for the afternoon, for a few hours’ Pi-wrangling. If you’d been there you’d have met a hearty slice of the Pi’s development team: JamesH (and his brother, which surprised and excited me because I’d always thought that James had hatched from an egg), Gert, James Adams, Eben and I were all hanging around and poking things

Quick housekeeping note: thanks for all the kind birthday wishes! We’re going to be celebrating tomorrow on March 1, not today on Feb 28. Prof Alan Mycroft wants me to point you all at the Pirates of Penzance , whose protagonist has a leap-year problem similar to the Foundation’s.
