Time lapse video, for art and for science

Dave Hunt (a familiar name in these parts) has been working on perfecting his Raspberry Pi-controlled camera time lapse rig. Before I go into any more detail, here’s some absolutely stupendous video resulting from his work on the setup. (I recommend you use HD when viewing this – and watch the video in a full-screen setting if you can.) We’ve featured a few projects here which use the Pi to create time-lapse video, but Dave’s is the most sophisticated we’ve seen yet, adding features like a heater to evaporate dew from the lens and an ability to film rising or falling sequences

Meltwater’s RGB LED libraries lesson

Meltwater (of MagPi fame) has been working on some affordable teaching add-ons for the Pi. He’s demonstrating what you can do with one of his little kits with this natty tutorial where you’ll be creating your own Python library, and using it to do some low-level control of the GPIO

Raspberry Leaf

Dr Simon Monk ( who has written a book on the Pi and Python – check it out on Amazon ) has come up with a really useful idea: a bit of paper you can install over the GPIO pins of your prototyping Pi (and leave there) to remind you which pin is which. The simplest ideas are the best, aren’t they

Raspberry Jam, Francophone-style

Here’s a guest post from Dr William Bell. Will works at CERN, and has been doing wonderful things with Raspberry Pi meetups and outreach  in Switzerland (you may have read the piece in the Guardian from a few months ago about what’s going on there with the Pi ; none of this would have happened without Will).

London Raspberry Jam 3.01.13

Alan O’Donohoe @teknoteacher writes: Around 70 children, parents and teachers had a great time at the London Raspberry Jam organised by parent Paul Evans on Thursday 3rd January. In the few days before Christmas, Paul imagined that there would be many Raspberry Pi computers in Christmas stockings leaving the recipients of these gifts a little puzzled.
