UNICEF Pi Project to Educate Syrian Children in Lebanon

Ben: here’s a guest post from one of our great community members, Alex Eames, who’s providing his Kickstarter-funded HDMIPi screens to a UNICE education project in Lebanon. Graphic equaliser

Our good friends at Adafruit put this project on their Learning System earlier this month. It’s a beaut: you’ll learn something making it, and it looks fantastic when set up. Before we get into the nitty gritty, here’s some video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AMPJH1LOu50 This graphic equaliser (a spectrum analys/zer if you’re from the USA) is made from a RGB led strip, with everything down to the audio processing run on the Pi

Introduction to the Raspberry Pi: free online course in Spanish starts October 14th

Universidad Galileo (Galileo University) in Guatemala have launched a free, Spanish language MOOC (Massive Open Online Course**) titled “ Introducción a Raspberry Pi “. The University says (via my rubbish tourist Spanish, sorry): In this course, students will get to know the Raspberry Pi and learn what it can do; which [Linux] distributions are available; how to develop simple applications using Python; and how to control external devices using the GPIO interface. The emphasis is on theory first, then demonstrations and ultimately the student is encouraged to reinforce their learning by first replicating and then improving what they’ve been shown.

Guest post from Khan Academy Lite

Liz: We’ve been talking a bit about Khan Academy Lite on this blog recently. KA Lite is the offline version of Khan Academy, and we’ve recently seen the Kingdom of Bhutan’s first Raspberry Pi being used as a server to give kids offline access to the huge, free suite of Khan Academy’s top-quality video lectures and learning materials. You can read more about Khan Academy on their own website , but don’t just take their word for it: there’s a wealth of material online about the Khan Academy learning experience from users, if you have a few minutes to google for it

The Kingdom of Bhutan’s first Pi: a Khan Academy server

We were chatting to Natasha Lomas from TechCrunch (no relation to our own Pete) last week about the distribution of Raspberry Pis across the world.
