Droplet photography

I get asked sometimes what my favourite projects from this blog are. Dave Hunt’s water droplet photography’s right up there: Dave rigged up a Pi to trigger a solenoid valve and a camera shutter at the same time, to take perfectly timed macro photos of water drops. Benchmarking Raspberry Pi 2

If you follow us on Twitter , you’ll notice that I put a call out earlier today for people who’d benchmarked their Raspberry Pi 2 – I wanted to be able to share some benchmarking results with you this afternoon. @Raspberry_Pi I’ve been running the Octane javascript benchmark on Node.JS and getting ~6X faster on the ‘2 (and it’s single threaded!) — Stewart X Addison (@sxaTech) February 5, 2015 @Raspberry_Pi SunSpider Javascript benchmark completes in 4452.1ms on Raspberry Pi 2, compared with 23692.7ms on Raspberry Pi Model B+

Pi-Rex: a bark-activated door opener for dogs

Here’s a weekend project from Dave Hunt for dog owners whose best friends can’t work out whether they want to be inside or outside. Dave came up with Pi-Rex when the sleep deprivation caused by his new dog barking to be let in or out alternately became too much to bear.

Focus-stacking with Raspberry Pi for macro photography

Dave Hunt is on a bit of a roll at the moment. Not content with having engineered the water droplet photography setup behind the prettiest post we’ve featured here, he’s also been working with the Pi and an home-made macro rail for sharper macro photographs without all that woolly depth of field.
